Mission & Goals
The Liberian Registry was established in 1948 and has been an industry leader throughout its 75+ years of existence. Propelled by outstanding growth in previous years, the Liberian Registry reattained in 2024 its status as the world’s largest ship registry, with a current fleet including 6,000+ ships of more than 290 million gross tons and growing, representing 17% of the world’s ocean-going fleet. The Liberian Registry is the fastest-growing flag state in the world.
EU Legislative Interests
LISCR follows policy developments related to the maritime sector in general, starting with the Maritime Guidelines that came out in 2004 and the subsequent changes. Maritime safety is also a key feature of our European presence, leading us to monitor legislative developments in that space, such as the recent revision of the Port State Control (PSC) Directive, as well as the EU’s sanctions and sustainability policies.
Communication Activities
We have not been engaging actively in European communications, but we have submitted a recent reply to the European Commission's Stakeholder Consultation on the EU Industrial Maritime at the request of DG MOVE.
