Mission & Goals

To represent the interests of the European liquid gas industry at EU level and to contribute to the development of effective policy solutions, notably, but not exclusively, in the areas of energy, transport, environment and taxation.

EU Legislative Interests

Liquid Gas Europe is primarily interested in legislation in the domains of energy, climate, transport, environment, heating, sustainability, and taxation. Specific dossiers on which Liquid Gas Europe has worked in recent years include: the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling Directive, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), the Regulation on CO₂ emissions for passenger cars, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), the VAT Directive, the Energy Taxation Directive (ETD), the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation, EU ETS II, and the Clean Industrial Deal / CISAF framework and others.

Communication Activities

Communication activities in relation to EU policies (2025) In 2025, Liquid Gas Europe carried out a range of communication and outreach activities linked to EU climate, energy, transport and consumer policy initiatives, aimed at informing EU institutions and contributing evidence to legislative and strategic processes. These activities primarily consisted of formal consultation responses, position papers, policy publications and targeted outreach linked to EU legislative files, including: European Climate Law (2040 target): consultation response, including the publication and submission of “Unlocking the Role of Renewable Liquid Gases in Delivering the EU 2040 Climate Target”. EU Heating and Cooling Strategy: submission of a detailed response to the Commission’s Call for Evidence. EU Bioeconomy Strategy: written contribution to the Commission consultation. Citizens Energy Package / energy poverty: consultation response focusing on consumer protection, affordability, and the role of renewable liquid gases in mitigating energy poverty, particularly in rural and off-grid areas. Transport and automotive legislation: submissions to consultations on the Automotive Omnibus, CO₂ emission standards for cars and vans, and related Calls for Evidence. Cross-cutting climate and energy files: written contributions linked to ETS II, Energy Taxation, and emissions accounting, including information on certification, mass balance, and the recognition of renewable fuels. Publications and information materials Renewable Liquid Gas 2040 & 2050 Outlook (2025): analytical report and accompanying explanatory materials presenting scenarios and evidence on the potential contribution of renewable liquid gases to EU climate and energy objectives. Events and policy discussions Launch event – Renewable Liquid Gas 2040 & 2050 Outlook (Brussels, March 2025). Breakfast policy discussion (Brussels, June 2025) on heating and cooling policy, technology neutrality, and decarbonisation pathways. European Liquid Gas Congress 2025 (Katowice), including policy-focused presentations and panel discussions. Building Energy Everywhere launch event: seminar held in Brussels on 30 September 2025 to launch and present the Building Energy Everywhere initiative, highlighting renewable liquid gas solutions and linking project insights to EU policy discussions. Projects and awareness activities “Building Energy Everywhere” information initiative (2025): communication activities presenting practical examples of building decarbonisation solutions using renewable liquid gases.
