Mission & Goals
LigniLabs is a spin-off from the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research that was founded in 2022 and specialises in the bio-based encapsulation of active substances. At LigniLabs, we envision a future where bio-based encapsulation transforms industries, making active ingredient delivery smarter, safer, and more sustainable. Our lignin-based micro- and nanoencapsulation technology has the potential to redefine material science by enabling "everything in everything" encapsulation with precision-controlled release mechanisms. By leveraging enzymatic and other combinable triggers, we open new frontiers for agriculture, plastics, and beyond. Scalable through conventional chemical production, our platform technology paves the way for cost-effective, eco-friendly solutions that replace synthetic alternatives. LigniLabs is shaping a world where innovation meets sustainability—one encapsulated breakthrough at a time.
EU Legislative Interests
So far, no activities have taken place in this regard in the past. LigniLabs intends to enter into dialogue with the European Commission regarding the development of a proof (test) for the biodegradability of lignin in order to enable potentials for the approval of novel fertilisers and plant protection products in the biopolymer sector.
