Mission & Goals

LUT University is a pioneering science university in Finland, bringing together the fields of science and business since 1969. LUT successfully integrates expertise in technology and economics. Our international community is composed of approx. 10 000 students and experts engaged in scientific research and academic education in our three schools. The LUT School of Energy Systems' (LES) areas of expertise are energy engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering and mechanical engineering. The LUT School of Engineering Science (LENS) acts as an international expert in the fields of separation, purification and process technology, as well as machine vision and pattern recognition, industrial mathematics and different branches of physics as well as industrial engineering and management and software engineering and Social Sciences. The LUT Business School (LBS) has sustainable business renewal as the focus area of both education and research.

EU Legislative Interests

LUT University Brussels activities cover especially the European Green deal initiative with specific focus on decarbonizing energy and sustainable production and consumption where the University staff provides science-based solutions and expertise during events and several networks. Along this green deal focus LUT University follows general research and innovation policy development relevant to the sectors covered by it’s 3 schools and strategic focus areas covering clean energy solutions for industry and society; regenerative use of natural resources; utilising data and digital technology to benefit society; building resilient businesses, industry and communities. We follow also the development of the implementation of the Horizon Europe.

Communication Activities

LUT staff joins EU policy debate via - memberships in several networks like COST, Euro-case, Unilion, - expert groups and reports for example within SAPEA expert group on Working Group on the Systemic Approach for the Energy Transition in Europe reporting to EU Science Advice Mechanism - policy events or hearings like during European Sustainable Energy Week by own initiative or with European and Finnish networks - Horizon Europe brokerage events within the field of LUT strategic areas. In Horizon 2020 we had 39 projects accepted for funding and in Horizon Europe, we already have over 50 projects accepted.
