Mission & Goals
La Chaîne de l’Espoir has the mandate of providing access to healthcare, education and wellbeing to destitute children, their families and their communities. La Chaîne de l'Espoir aims to strengthen the health systems to give everyone, and in particular to children, the same chances of survival and development. La Chaîne de l'Espoir intervenes through a global approach, centered on the child but also on the mothers and disadvantaged communities: - Care and surgery, to meet the most urgent needs of children and their mothers. - Training and transfer of skills to local teams thanks to our international network of experts in all fields of surgery. - Construction and equipment of hospital structures adapted to local needs. - Prevention and screening from an early age, particularly in the context of school health programmes. La Chaîne de l’Espoir intervenes directly and through partner organisations in reinforcement of their capacities in around 30 countries.
EU Legislative Interests
La Chaîne de l'Espoir is member of VOICE platform in Brussels, who's advocating for shaping EU policies and practices affecting the delivery of principled humanitarian aid worldwide, building on NGOs’ operational expertise. Since 2023 CDE is involved on the Humanitarian Partnership Watch Group (former FPA Watch Group) that represents the views of all ECHO’s NGO partners in the monitoring, review, and consultation of all matters relating to the Humanitarian Partnership. It works towards a common interpretation and consistent application of the HP. Composed of a smaller number of members elected by the Watch Group, the HP Task Force is the "executive" of the HP Watch Group. The HP Watch Group has been renewed in 2022 as per its Terms of Reference. As well as the technical aspects of the HP WG, it is necessary to underline the importance of the Watch Group as a platform for cooperation, exchange of information and reflection. This dynamic of cooperation solidifies the strength of the Group but above all improves the level of professionalism of NGOs allowing them to retain and protect their unique status. In 2024 and 2025 several meeting groups and advocay activities were run under the Voice umbrella and covering topics related to 1. EU Multiannual Financial Framework (Keep Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and countries in situations of fragility and conflict as a priority in the future development cooperation instrument, keep distinct instruments and budget lines of external financing instruments in the next MFF, support for civil society organisations, etc.) La Chaîne de l'Espoir is also member of Coordination Sud (and its working groups) - French NGOs Platform - advocating within the CONCORD network for the French position at European and International level. The CDE participated at the webinars and information groups in order to deepen the knowledge on the EU new budgetary frame 2021-2027, the programming of the new external instrument (NDICI), the programming process for the financial period 2021-2027, the Civil Society engagement with the EU Delegations.

L’organisation de La Chaîne de l’Espoir s’appuie sur une structure permanente salariée mais aussi sur un important réseau de bénévoles (familles d’accueil, accompagnants, médicaux et paramédicaux, techniciens, administratifs) en France et pour réaliser ses missions sur le terrain. La Chaîne de l'Espoir relies on a permanent salaried structure as well as a large network of volunteers (host families, carers, medical and paramedical staff, technicians, administrative staff) in France and to carry out its missions in the field.
