Mission & Goals
KKI WARSI was established with the aim of working towards achieving sustainable development that is capable of meeting the needs and welfare of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their needs. For this reason, KKI WARSI has pledged the motto “Conservation with the Community”. To be able to meet this goal, KKI WARSI has formulated a mission for the promotion, development and strengthening of the basic principles of local community conservation and development of fair, equal, participatory, transparent and sustainable management of natural resources.
EU Legislative Interests
WARSI’s field experience in community forestry, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods in Indonesia relates to and provides practical insights relevant to the following recent EU policy frameworks: • Proposal for a Regulation on the making available on the Union market as well as export from the Union of certain commodities and products associated with deforestation and forest degradation (EU 2023/1115). • Communication from the Commission: A European Green Deal (COM/2019/640 final). • Communication from the Commission: Stepping up Europe’s 2030 climate ambition – Investing in a climate-neutral future for the benefit of our people (COM/2020/562 final). • EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 – Bringing nature back into our lives (COM/2020/380 final). • Joint Communication to the European Parliament and the Council: The EU Strategy on Co-operation in the Indo-Pacific (JOIN/2021/24 final). These frameworks are relevant to WARSI’s work in promoting community-based forest protection, renewable-energy transition, and deforestation-free value chains through collaboration with local governments, CSOs, and international partners such as IUCN NL under the Green Livelihoods Alliance.
Communication Activities
KKI WARSI carries out communication and learning activities that link community-based forest management and sustainable livelihoods with broader discussions on deforestation-free supply chains, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience. Examples include: • Facilitating provincial and district multi-stakeholder forums (Pokja PPS) to strengthen coordination, monitoring, and learning on social forestry implementation in Jambi, West Sumatra, and Bengkulu. • Organising public dialogues, reflection meetings, and learning exchanges on forest-fire prevention, biodiversity protection, and inclusive forest governance involving local governments, CSOs, and community groups. • Running citizen-journalism and media-collaboration initiatives to amplify local stories about sustainable forest products and community energy transition models. • Sharing lessons through joint exchanges and communication with IUCN NL and Green Livelihoods Alliance partners to connect field experiences in Sumatra with global discussions on deforestation-free value chains and biodiversity conservation.
