Mission & Goals

Kitemill aligns with key EU priorities across renewable energy, security/defence, and environmental monitoring. In energy, Fit for 55, REPowerEU, RED III, Horizon Europe, the Innovation Fund, the Net-Zero Industry Act, EASA aviation rules, and EU energy market reforms support AWE scale-up and integration. In security, the EU Action Plan on Drone and Counter-Drone Security (COM(2026) 81), Drone Strategy 2.0, EDDI / EU Drone Wall, the EUR 800bn ReArm Europe Plan, BMVI, EDF, and SAFE support demand and funding for persistent surveillance and counter-UAS. Kitemill’s Norwegian / EEA status supports eligibility and strategic autonomy. The EU Methane Regulation ((EU) 2024/1787) also creates MRV demand. As a dual-use platform, Kitemill also fits EU priorities on SME defence access, pre-commercial procurement, and clearer dual-use classification.

EU Legislative Interests

Kitemill aligns with key EU policies supporting renewable energy, including Fit for 55, REPowerEU, and the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), which drive the transition to cleaner energy sources. Horizon Europe, the Innovation Fund, and the Net-Zero Industry Act provide funding opportunities for scaling airborne wind energy (AWE). Compliance with EASA aviation regulations and EU energy market reforms supports safe integration and market viability. In addition, the EU Action Plan on Drone and Counter-Drone Security (COM(2026) 81), the European Drone Defence Initiative (EDDI), and the European Defence Fund (EDF) are relevant to Kitemill’s persistent surveillance (ISR) capabilities. The EU Methane Regulation ((EU) 2024/1787) also supports demand for persistent airborne emissions monitoring.

Communication Activities

Kitemill will participate in EU Sustainable Energy Week, WindEurope, and Horizon Europe events to advocate for AWE technology. Public affairs efforts will include policy briefs, partnerships with renewable alliances, and contributions to EU consultations. Publications in EU energy platforms and journals will highlight AWE's role in meeting climate targets. Kitemill will also engage in defence and security forums including XPONENTIAL Europe, Counter-UAS Technology Europe, and the D-TECT Forum to position persistent airborne ISR within the EU drone defence framework.
