Mission & Goals
The University of Jyväskylä (JYU) is an internationally renowned research university and an expert in education. The University of Jyväskylä educates a significant proportion of Finnish teachers, psychologists and IT experts. It is also the only university in Finland to educate experts in sport and health sciences. Eight of JYU’s subjects were placed among the best in the world in the 2025 Shanghai Ranking’s international university rankings by subject: information systems science, mathematics, psychology, physics, ecology, education, business economics, and communication. The Accelerator Laboratory of the Department of Physics is one of the European Major Infrastructures. JYU has 15 200 degree students and including adult education and 25 800 open university students. The number of personnel is 2850 including research and teaching staff 1800 persons.
