Mission & Goals
The purpose of the JEDA is the promoting of interests in the operation, production, research and development, service, and applications, hereafter "use", of all kinds of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in Europe. It aims to develop and maintain a common understanding of the seamless integration of UAS/RPAS into aviation and the European airspace system. The JEDA unites the European UAS/RPAS stakeholder community comprehensively and consensus based. It aims to develop and to sustain a common understanding of the seamless integration of UAS/RPAS in aviation and the European airspace system.
EU Legislative Interests
JEDA represents the UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) communities within the European Union. As such, we are in direct contact with EASA, having signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in 2024, providing "technical and operational support in the UAS domain", more specifically supporting Regulation 376/2014 on reporting for UAS operators. We also have a Competency group that provides feedback on the position of the UAS operators on the evolution of 2019/947, centralising remarks on Notices of Proposed Amendments (e.g. NPA 2026-103), given the regular uodates on 2019/945 and 2019/947. JEDA is also, via it's president Julie Garland, co-chair of the Drones Community Steering Task Group (DC-STG), and has sent numerous persons to take part in the Activity Groups of the a member of the Communities. JEDA is also in direct contact with DG Move, with for instance participation to workgroups and stakeholder consultations regarding the Drone Strategy (e.g? Action plan on drone & counter drone security, European Trusted Drone Label).
Communication Activities
The main task of JEDA is to serve as an interface between the European institutions (EASA, DG Move) and the drone operators. As such, we provide feedback from the terrain (see above), but we also spread the information and policy/regulation changes. We have monthly newsletters where the most recent changes are transmitted to the UAS community, we organise an annual survey to get numbers and facts on the actual missions/flights that are done. We also have published a White paper on the Standard Scenario's found in EC Regulation 2020/639, and this has been used by EASA to prepare proposed modifications. All these informations are also published on our website, and via Social media.
