EU Legislative Interests
As a cross-sectoral trade union representative of Irish workers, Congress operates within a number of interest areas across the European institutions. The main EU legislative proposals are the implementation of workers rights legislation such as Directives. We pursue improvements to the Directives to improve their effectiveness in protecting and promoting workers rights. We also seek to improve the visibility of Irish trade unions at European level within the EU. Congress operates within all EU guidelines, and reflects EU policy and legislation in all of it's undertakings.
Communication Activities
We communicate through bulletins to the Congress European Committee and verbal reports to the Congress Executive Committee. We engage in campaigns organised by our confederation, the ETUC. Publications are documents on campaigns issued by the ETUC. We are affiliated to the ETUC and participate on most of their committees including social dialogue with Employers Organisations and the Commission. We lobby MEP’s in the Parliament particularly the Irish MEP’s to influence them on improving workers rights.
