EU Legislative Interests

One of the Irish Bioeconomy Foundation (IBF) missions is to contribute to a fact-based policy making, striving to improve bioeconomy-related policy making, in particular appertaining to the domains of agri-food, forestry, marine, bioenergy. Specifically IBF seeks to make policy makers aware of the latest industrial and technology trends developed within the target markets and support its members and partners in disseminating their main opportunities and hurdles for technological advancement ability to meet ongoing societal challenges and sustainable development goals, and how the same are strongly affected by effective or less effective policy making. In that context, IBF seeks to directly or indirectly influencing the formulation or implementation of policy and the decision-making processes of the EU institutions, in particular the European Parliament and the European Commission. Direct contacts with MEP and their support staff is sought and achieved, either in person, or via printed material or e-material. Further, the organisation of meetings and promotional activities is also foreseen, to be featuring MEP and their staff. Finally, voluntary contributions and participation in formal consultations or hearings on envisaged EU legislative or other legal acts and other open consultations is ongoing. Our latest specific policy interest and targets include: Horizon Europe, European Partnership for a circular bio-based Europe (CBE), Common Agricultural Policy, Plastic Strategy, Circular Bioeconomy Thematic Investment Platform (ECBF). Furthermore, we have a strong interst in the Biotech Act, the eventual implementation of the Draghi Report, as well as an interest in the activities of organised interst group such as EuropaBio, the European BioSolution Coalition and COPA COGECA. Lately, we are actively working on regulatory sandboxes on the topic of alternative proteins and cellular agriculture. The updated bioeconomy strategy, and the biotech act II, is another key target for us, as well as any legislation involving N/P ratios regulation in water and land..
