Mission & Goals
Investigative Center of Ján Kuciak (ICJK) is a non-profit independent organization that has been established in 2018 after the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnirová. ICJK continues in the legacy of Ján Kuciak, who was oriented on facts and data-based journalism and promoted cooperation of journalists with the common goal of uncovering the truth. ICJK is also involved in promoting freedom of the press, protection of journalists and education of journalists. ICJK runs independent journalist's protection platform Safe.Journalism.SK that monitors attacks against journalists, helps journalists under threat and communicates with state actors to increase the protection of journalists. ICJK was awarded by 5 consecutive National journalism prizes for investigative journalism (2021-2025). ICJK is conducting its activities in the highest professional standards according to its own ethical code as well as national ethical code of Slovak journalists.
