Mission & Goals
Interpat is a global intellectual property association representing the Chief IP Counsels from 30 of the world's leading research-based biopharmaceutical companies. Headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, Interpat is dedicated to advancing and promoting a robust and predictable intellectual property framework that enables and sustains biopharmaceutical innovation for the benefit of patients worldwide. Interpat engages with key international organizations and national governments on matters concerning the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. This includes engagement with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), as well as on policies and legislative initiatives within the European Union that impact the global IP ecosystem. Our primary goal is to foster a constructive, evidence-based dialogue on the vital role of intellectual property in driving medical progress and ensuring a sustainable environment for future R&D.
EU Legislative Interests
Intellectual Property Policy The EU Pharmaceutical Package (General Pharmaceutical Legislation) The EU Biotech Act and initiatives related to the competitiveness of Europe's innovation ecosystem. The implementation and functioning of the Unified Patent Court (UPC). Intellectual Property provisions within the EU's international trade agreements.
Communication Activities
Organizing events, seminars, and high-level roundtables with EU policymakers. Publishing position papers, policy analysis, and expert commentary on key legislative files and intellectual property developments. Engaging in dialogue and correspondence with officials and representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, and Member State Permanent Representations. Convening our members to develop expert, evidence-based industry positions on EU policies.
