Mission & Goals

The IUCN EU Representative Office focuses on biodiversity, nature conservation, EU policy and Nature-based Solutions. The office provides valuable inputs into ongoing policy debates in these areas, as well as a broad platform for discussions thanks to its varied membership and open dialogues. It aims at informing EU policy making, representing IUCN in Brussels, supporting resource mobilisation, and implementing IUCN’s Nature 2030 Programme in Europe.

EU Legislative Interests

The EU Green Deal, as such, including (inter alia): The EU Biodiversity Strategy, and in this context • the Invasive Alien Species Regulation, • the Nature Restoration Law, • the Soil Health Law, • the EU Pollinators Initiative, • the EU Forest Strategy and • the EU legal framework to halt and reverse EU-driven global deforestation. the EU Water Resilience Strategy The Farm to Fork Strategy, and in this context • the Sustainable Food Systems Framework Law (SFSF) and the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation (SUR). • The climate policy (including the Climate Law). • The Circular Economy Action Plan, including the Sustainable Products Initiative. • the EU Taxonomy for sustainable finance The Common Agricultural Policy. The EU Overseas Countries and territories related policies. IUCN: European Red Lists, Key Biodiversity Areas, Nature-based Solutions International polices, including inter alia the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and the Action Plan against illegal wildlife trade. Communication Activities

To help the implementation of the above-mentioned policies, projects, events and publications are done whichc we actively communicate on. IUCN engages a number of stakeholders in open dialogues. More specifically: Quarterly IUCN European Regional Office Newsletter (over 2900 subscribers) Organization of several high-level events, partnering with the European Institutions, UN agencies, NGOs, private sector and academia Dissemination of relevant project results in order to contribute to the current discussions Constantly updating our website with latest project results and positions on relevant policy discussions
