Mission & Goals

ISSA is a leading international learning community and dynamic member association, powered by Europe’s and Central Asia’s foremost early childhood experts. Our shared, unwavering goal is to ensure that every child reaches their full potential. With a steadfast commitment to advancing early childhood development based on principles of inclusivity and equity, we champion holistic and integrated systems, policies, and high-quality services for all young children. As a network, we advance the ECD field by generating new knowledge and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation that supports a wide variety of stakeholders including practitioners, policy makers, parents, and more. Beyond the ISSA Network Hub’s role for growing and maintaining the member association, we also advance early childhood development through strategic programmatic initiatives and expert consultancy services to create meaningful, systemic change across Europe and Central Asia.

EU Legislative Interests

Currently ISSA is involved in the following European projects: 1. TOY for Participation: TOY4Participation is an innovative project that promotes meaningful child participation in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings, with a particular focus on non-formal community based early childhood services like Play Hubs. These hubs provide safe, inclusive environments where all children can actively engage in their own learning and decision-making. The initiative empowers children aged 0-10, including those underrepresented such as migrants, refugees, Roma, and children with special needs, to express their views and influence decisions that impact them. Building on the success of the TOY for Inclusion programme—which established so far 40 Play Hubs in Europe to pro 2. CHAVORE (which means "children" in Romani language) is an initiative committed to enhancing the mental health and well-being of young children aged 0-6, particularly in vulnerable communities such as Roma. This initiative addresses the critical developmental needs of young children, especially during their early years, by fostering environments that promote physical and mental health and well-being. CHAVORE’s work is rooted in cultural sensitivity and evidence-based practices, making it a unique approach that supports young children and families experiencing exclusion and discrimination and the professionals who care for them.
