Mission & Goals
The International Raw Materials Observatory is an international not-for-profit international association, established on 25 September 2017. The Observatory was created to support international cooperation on mineral raw materials’ research & innovation, education & outreach, industry & trade and recycling, management & substitution of strategic raw materials. EU Legislative Interests
The Raw Materials Initiative and the ongoing activities that relate to it (e.g. the Raw Materials Scoreboard, the European Raw Materials Alliance, the European Battery Alliance, the Conflict Minerals Regulation) are of particular interest to the activities of the Observatory. The implementation of EU legislative initiatives of particular interest to the Observatory are the Critical Raw Materials Act and the European Net Zero Industry Act.
Communication Activities
The Observatory publishes biweekly the World Barometer (http://worldbarometer.intraw.eu/#/). It uses public sources of information to analyse sector trends, main industry drivers, studies and statistics, international best practices, innovative projects, linkages with adjacent areas and what opinion leaders and influencers are saying about the raw materials sector. These news frequently cover EU policies and initiatives. The Observatory also organises public workshops and roundtables between policy-makers and policy-influencers to discuss international cooperation and best practices (see https://intraw.eu/recording-now-available-transatlantic-conversation-on-critical-mineral-supply-chain-vulnerability/ and https://intraw.eu/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Summary-Document-UNFC_CRIRSCO-roundtable.pdf).
