Mission & Goals

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is a not-for-profit independent international organisation as stipulated in article 15 of the Olympic Charter. Its goal is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world through sport in accordance with Olympism and its values. It is the governing body of the Olympic Movement, which consists of 206 National Olympic Committees on five continents, and 35 International Sports Federations. The IOC ensures the regular celebration of the Olympic Games and supports hosting cities to ensure the most sustainable Games’ delivery. It supports athletes, coaches and the development of sport around the world through programmes and projects, based on revenues generated from its partnerships with commercial and broadcast entities and strong collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organisations.
