Mission & Goals

IETM is a network representing the voice of over 500 performing arts organisations and individual professionals working in the contemporary performing arts worldwide. We advocate the value of the arts and culture and empower performing arts professionals through access to international connections, knowledge and a dynamic forum for exchange. We work to stimulate the quality, development and context of the contemporary performing arts, in all their diversity.

Communication Activities

Events: IETM organises annual Plenary meetings which are major networking platforms for members and for the wider performing arts community. Beyond the networking component, IETM Plenary meetings offer an inspiring space for learning, capacity building tackled thematic which are relevant to EU policies : in 2022, it tackled the theme of labour in the performing arts, revolving around inclusion and fair working conditions. In 2023, the Plenary addressed the thematic of sustainability and climate change. In addition, IETM organises Innovate Cultural Policy events in Brussels and online gathering representatives from the EU institutions, IETM Associate Members (cultural institutes and Art Councils) and some of the national policy-makers. The objective of the event is to provide a policy discussion on a topic from a policy and practitioners point of view. The online Innovate Cultural Policy Event which was held on 25 January 2023 under the title 'Which side are you on? Ideas for Reaching Fair Working Conditions in the Art's' was followed by a roundtable discussion with EU policy makers (European Commission DG EAC, Council Rapporteur of the OMC group on the working conditions in the creative sector) and representative of cultural organisations.
