Mission & Goals

ILC is the UK’s leading authority on the impact of longevity on society. We combine evidence, solutions and networks to make change happen. We help governments, policy-makers, businesses and employers develop and implement solutions to ensure we all live happier, healthier and more fulfilling longer lives. We want a society where we all live happier, healthier and more fulfilling longer lives, where tomorrow is better than today and where future generations are better off. ILC wants to help forge a new vision for the 100-year life where we all have the opportunity to learn across our lives and where new technology helps us contribute more to society.

EU Legislative Interests

ILC examines EU legislative proposals or policies through the ILC Europe Network (ILC-Europe); a network of key thought leaders across Europe focussed on longevity, future-proofing policy and best practice to adapt to the needs of an ageing society. ILC is a co-founder of ILC-Europe. The main legislative proposals or policies targeted by ILC & ILC-Europe are: - The EU Demography Toolbox - ILC & ILC-Europe sent a letter to Dubravka Šuica on 20 October 2023 congratulating the European Commission for the policy, and imploring the Commission to encourage Member States to utilise health prevention as a means of ensuring longer and healthier lives. See letter here: https://ilcuk.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/Letter-to-Vice-President-Dubravka-Suica-20.10.23.pdf

Communication Activities

ILC has engaged with EU policymakers on several occasions in the past. For example, we have worked with Dubravka Šuica, former Commissioner for Democracy and Demography (now Mediterranean), on communication material including a video for our annual conference and a response letter on a European white paper on ageing. Our research reports have covered a number of topics and have been produced in different European languages. For example, our Global Longevity Dividend research is available in four languages: https://ilcuk.org.uk/global-longevity-dividend/ We have also engaged with European stakeholders on other research reports, such as our "Hitting New Heights" report on routine vaccination in Europeans with chronic conditions. MEP Tomislav Sokol helped contribute to the final report: https://ilcuk.org.uk/hitting-new-heights-report/ MEP Andras Kulja spoke at ILC's webinar on our "Mind the age gap" report that focuses on mental health (https://ilcuk.org.uk/mind-the-age-gap-report/). He also sponsored an ILC report launch in the European Parliament in November 2025.
