Mission & Goals
The association's charitable goal is to improve equestrian education and qualifications worldwide, with the ultimate goal of promoting the welfare of the horse (and rider). It pursues this goal by: - developing, promoting and maintaining international standards for equestrian qualifications; - promoting horsemanship, knowledge, skills, safety and welfare in equestrian sports; - facilitating international exchange and recognition of qualifications; - supporting members and partners in developing and implementing national training systems, with a focus on inclusive, well-being-oriented standards; - organizing training courses, seminars, conferences and other initiatives to promote these objectives. The association operates on a global scale, on a non-profit basis and in accordance with the principles of transparency, inclusion and horse welfare.
EU Legislative Interests
Vocational education and training in the equestrian sector; Animal welfare and ethical training principles for horses; Recognition and mobility of professional qualifications across borders; Harmonization of international standards in equestrian education and sports.
Communication Activities
Organiseren en participeren in internationale conferenties, workshops en jaarlijkse algemene vergaderingen gericht op de harmonisatie van equestrian qualifications, met een sterke focus op opleidingskwaliteit, equine welfare en ethische trainingsprincipes. Voorbeelden van recente en geplande activiteiten: Jaarlijkse IGEQ-conferenties en examiner/trainer clinics om best practices te delen en de bijgewerkte IGEQ competence matrix (2024-update) te promoten, met nadruk op horse welfare, ISES First Principles en de Five Domains Model. Ontwikkeling en verspreiding van position papers, syllabi en richtlijnen voor equestrian VET (vocational education and training) in lidstaten en ontwikkelingslanden. Samenwerking met nationale federaties voor awareness-raising events en publicaties over de erkenning van internationale trainer passports en mobiliteit van professionals. Geplande outreach via webinars, open brieven en bijdragen aan EU-consultaties over VET-kwaliteitsborging, animal welfare in sport/onderwijs, en transparantie in erkenning van kwalificaties.

The organisation IGEQ existed since 1992 as an unincorporated association based in the UK. On 23/02/2026 the transition of this incorporated association to a limited liability association with a legal body as a Belgian VZW : International Group for Equestrian Qualifications VZW with KBO nr 1034717608. The transfer of the patrimonium, assets, members, board, etc was accepted by voting at the first General Assembly held on 24/02/2026 and the publishing in the Belgian Gazette is in process (administrations takes some time).
