Mission & Goals
ICCBBA is the international standards organization responsible for the management and development of the ISBT 128 Standard for blood and transplant. The ISBT 128 standard has been designed to ensure the highest levels of accuracy, safety, and efficiency for the benefit of donors and patients worldwide. ISBT 128 provides international consistency to support the transfer, traceability and transfusion/transplantation of blood, cells, tissues and organs. ICCBBA's vision: Global adoption of ISBT 128 for all medical products of human origin (MPHO). ICCBBA's mission: Enhancing patient safety by promoting and managing the ISBT 128 international information standard for use with medical products of human origin. Organisation Members
ICCBBA does not have members. Users register with ICCBBA and pay an annual fee to be assigned a Facility Identification Number, key element in traceability, and to use the ISBT128 Standard. The majority of users are facilities or banks that collected Medical Products of Human Origin e.g., blood, cells, organs, tissues, ocular tissue, human milk etc. They may also include pharmaceutical or biotech companies who are handling MPHO as starting materials for advanced therapies. Vendors of technical solutions for these users are also registered with ICCBBA. At the time of writing, ICCBBA had issued over 6000 Facility Identification Numbers for users in 77 countries.
