Mission & Goals
IAPO, created in 1999, is a unique global alliance of almost 300 patient organisations from 71 countries representing patients across all disease areas and promoting patient-centred healthcare around the world. IAPO is non-state actor in official relations with the WHO. IAPO’s vision is a world where health systems are shaped by the unique needs and preferences of the people and communities they represent. IAPO’s mission is to mobilise and support patient organisations, empowering them to play an active role in decision making processes by: • Realizing active partnerships with patients’ organizations, academia, international and professional community based on interest in pursuit of common goals. • Advocating internationally on relevant aspects of healthcare policy; • Building cross-sector alliances and working collaboratively with health professionals, policy makers, academics, researchers and industry;
