Mission & Goals

The goals of the INC are: - coordinate and reinforce all actions in the fight against cancer, - to facilitate access for people with cancer, wherever they are treated in the country, whatever the stage of their disease and the complexity of their treatment, to a structured, standardised, high-quality clinical and care pathway, incorporating the latest scientific data and international best practice, in complete safety, - to develop and monitor joint initiatives with public and private cancer operators in the fields of prevention, screening, care, research, teaching, epidemiology and surveillance, - contribute to controlling healthcare expenditure in the field of oncology.

EU Legislative Interests

The INC currently acts as the Competent Authority ("Beneficiary"), mandated by the Ministry of Health and Social Security of Luxembourg, in two projects of the EU4Health Programme: JA CraNE (https://crane4health.eu) and CSA ECHOS (https://cancermissionhubs.eu), as well as an Affiliated Entity in the project CSA CCI4EU (http://cci4eu.eu). In addition, the INC acts as the Competent Authority in two additional projects of the EU4Health Programme: "EU Network of the CCC/I" and the "New Network of Expertise", as of october 2024. The INC is also involved in the EU-CIP project which started in May 2025. To this end, the INC is actively involved in the consultations of the Member States' representatives in the domain of cancer. Additionally, the director of the INC participates in the meetings of the Sub-group on Cancer under the Public Health Expert Group, operated by the DG SANTE. Moreover, the INC provides feedback on the working documents and programmes linked to "Europe's Beating Cancer Plan" and 'European Mission on Cancer".

Communication Activities

With respect to existing policies and recommendations issued by various EU organisations and entities, the INC oversees the coordination and implementation of a subset of these measures at the national level under the mandate of the Ministry of Health and Social Security of Luxembourg. Concerning the national policies, the INC is involved in implementing numerous measures and actions of the second National Cancer Plan 2020-2026 of Luxembourg. This includes developing and publishing national guidelines and recommendations, preparing and publishing national reports and statistics, and organising consultative meetings and conferences in the domains of oncology, patient care and support, and digitalisation. Moreover, the INC organises national communication activities in the context of collaborative EU projects (EU4Health programme) in which it participates.
