Mission & Goals

IRMA’s vision is a world where the mining industry respects the human rights and aspirations of affected communities; provides safe, healthy, and respectful workplaces; minimizes harm to the environment; and leaves positive legacies. Our mission is to protect people and the environment directly affected by mining. We do this by creating financial value for mines independently verified to achieve best practices, and share this value with the businesses that purchase material from these mines.

EU Legislative Interests

Of interest to IRMA are policies that promote good practices in mining. Specifically, IRMA is interested in the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, Critical Raw Materials Act, and Batteries Regulation and related guidance to recognize and reflect good practices in the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining. Further to this, IRMA also follows the impacts of the various Omnibus packages including on the EU taxonomy rules and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive. Other files of interest include the potential revision of the EU Mining Waste Directive, the Water Framework Directive, and the Green Claims Directive.
