Mission & Goals
i-TRIBOMAT: The European Tribology Centre (ETC) is the European Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) dedicated to everything related to friction, wear, lubrication, sealing, and coatings — from machinery components to climbing shoes, or even synovial fluid replacement for knee joints. The ETC connects industry, specialized tribology laboratories, and digital data infrastructure to address friction, wear, lubrication, and durability challenges in a structured and scalable way. In simple terms, i-TRIBOMAT acts as a one-stop gateway for tribology. What i-TRIBOMAT does? 1. Connects companies to the right labs 2. Manages and harmonizes tribological testing 3. Operates a central tribology data infrastructure 4. Bridges R&D, standardization, and industry needs
EU Legislative Interests
i-TRIBOMAT’s activities are aligned with and contribute to the implementation of several EU policy initiatives, in particular the European Green Deal, the EU Industrial Strategy, and the Digital Europe agenda. The organisation supports EU objectives related to sustainable materials and products, resource efficiency, and industrial competitiveness, notably through contributions to policies on advanced materials, safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) approaches, and the substitution of substances of concern under REACH and related chemicals legislation. i-TRIBOMAT also aligns with EU initiatives promoting FAIR data, digitalisation of research and testing infrastructures, and the development of trusted industrial data spaces, contributing to evidence-based policy making and standardisation activities in the field of tribology.
