Mission & Goals
A global, network-oriented organisation advancing the rights and wellbeing of older people by convening partners, generating evidence, influencing policy, supporting high-quality programming, and ensuring safe, ethical, and collaborative ways of working across humanitarian and development contexts.
EU Legislative Interests
EU enlargement process in relation to Ukraine (though mainly in 2023/2024) including the European Commission’s 2024 Enlargement Package and engagement with DG NEAR around Ukraine’s accession and reform process as well as with the EU delegation in Ukraine, and the organisation of a high level event (more below in the communication activity part). HelpAge also engages broadly to EU external action in international development and humanitarian aid area.
Communication Activities
In May 2024 HelpAge organised a high-level event in Brussels on Ukraine’s reconstruction, reform and accession process, with participation from Dubravka Šuica, European Commission Vice-President; Marlene Madsen, Deputy Director, Ukraine Service, DG NEAR; Oliver Röpke, President of the European Economic and Social Committee; and ministers and deputy ministers from the governments of Ukraine, Sweden and Japan among others.
