Mission & Goals
Helen Keller's mission is to prevent avoidable blindness and malnutrition in Africa, Asia, the United-States and France. The organisations’ mandate stems directly from its history: in 1915, Helen Keller founded a relief fund in Paris to assist soldiers suffering eye injuries during WWI. Upon returning to the US and realizing 90% of blindness cases are preventable, the mission shifted toward prevention. In 1977, the association became Helen Keller International (HKI), and its mission became the prevention of avoidable blindness and malnutrition – one of the leading causes of blindness among young children. Headquartered in New York City, HKI currently works in 20 countries. Helen Keller Europe (HKE), created in 1998, is a French association under the 1901 law, affiliated with HKI while being financially and legally independent. We establish low-cost, evidence-based programs to improve health and food systems for the development of countries and the resilience of communities.

Communication Activities
2 meeting with the DG INTPA office, in december 2024 and october 2025, to discuss the European Union's action on nutrition in Africa and Asia. Representatives from Helen Keller Europe (based in Paris), Helen Keller International HQ (based in NYC) and Helen Keller International based locally in country offices would meet with EU representatives.
