Mission & Goals
HES-SO is the largest university of applied sciences (UAS) in Switzerland and the second largest higher education institution of the country, with more than 21'000 students and a broad network of schools located in 7 cantons. HES-SO is organised in six faculties: Design & Visual Arts, Business Management & Services, Engineering & Architecture, Music & Performing Arts, Health and Social Work, and education and research are oriented towards practical applications in the same areas. HES-SO offers a large variety of education programmes: 43 Bachelor degrees, 25 Master degrees and more than 250 continuing education courses. It employs more than 19'000 collaborators, with approx. 1150 FTE dedicated to R&D activities. Strongly anchored in the regional economy, HES-SO collaborates closely with SMEs, and its R&D also extends to certain aspects of industrial-scale production.
EU Legislative Interests
The HES-SO is an academic institution, it is mainly interested in Research, Innovation and Education policies, in particular the participation of researchers as expert for the Horizon Europe missions : - one professor has been selected as expert in the Enlarged Soil Expert Group, The group’s overall mission will be to support the European Commission in realising the medium- and long-term objectives of the EU Soil Strategy – to ensure healthy soil ecosystems by 2050.
