Mission & Goals

HACE are a leading organisation dedicated to supporting companies and investors in addressing Child Labour, including Forced Child Labour, risks in global supply chains. We are Child Labour specialists and all of our goals are related to raising awareness of the issue, helping companies and investors to understand the issue and its definitions / scope, and ultimately, to move Child Labour up the global agenda as one of the world's most complex, prevalent and pressing social issues. We want to ensure policies and regulations are referencing Child Labour correctly, as many currently don't, such as the UK Modern Slavery Act. This is confusing for companies who are trying to both comply with regulation and carry out responsible business. We can consult on this area in much greater detail where necessary. In terms of clients, we mainly work in Private Equity, supporting on both a firm-level and portfolio-level around Child Labour and Forced Labour governance, due diligence and outcomes.

EU Legislative Interests

While additional and future regulation may have relevance to us (e.g. EU Deforestation Regulation and its interaction with Child and Forced Labour), the main target legislation is the Forced Labour Regulation i.e. "REGULATION (EU) 2024/3015 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 November 2024 on prohibiting products made with forced labour on the Union market and amending Directive (EU) 2019/1937"

Communication Activities

Specific meetings and events have yet to be published externally. We expect the expert group will bring together representatives of businesses, trade unions, civil society, academia and international organisations with expertise on Forced Labour policies. The group will provide advice on the implementation of the Regulation including on the development of the guidelines: -on due diligence in relation to Forced Labour, -guidance on best practices for bringing to an end and remediating Forced Labour, -guidance for competent authorities, -information on the risk indicators of Forced Labour, and others. We would like to provide our expertise during the above in order to ensure victims of Child Forced Labour have specific considerations and protections within enacted legislation.
