Mission & Goals
The Greek Bioeconomy Council (GBC) is the national association representing the bio-based industry in Greece, along with other stakeholders active in the bioeconomy, including academia and research. Its goals are to support the sustainable and circular use of renewable biological resources, facilitate cooperation among stakeholders, and contribute to policy and regulatory discussions at Greek and EU level. GBC addresses issues related to sustainable agriculture, bio-based production, circular economy practices, innovation and the regulatory framework affecting the bioeconomy sector.
EU Legislative Interests
The Greek Bioeconomy Council targets EU legislative and policy initiatives affecting the bio-based industry in Greece and the wider bioeconomy sector. These include the updated EU Bioeconomy Strategy; the Circular Economy Act and related circular economy initiatives; the Common Agricultural Policy and related sustainability requirements; Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 on EU fertilising products and its implementation and evaluation; EU legislation and policy concerning biostimulants, organic and recycled fertilising materials, soil health and soil monitoring; the Waste Framework Directive and legislation affecting the valorisation of bio-based and secondary raw materials; the EU Industrial Strategy and policies supporting biomanufacturing; and other European Green Deal initiatives relevant to renewable biological resources, innovation and sustainable production.
Communication Activities
The Greek Bioeconomy Council carries out communication activities related to relevant EU bioeconomy, circular economy, agriculture and industrial policy initiatives through participation in conferences, workshops, stakeholder events and policy discussions; the preparation and dissemination of position papers, statements and other written contributions; publication of information and updates through its website and professional communication channels; and cooperation with Greek and European stakeholders, clusters, research organisations and industry representatives. These activities aim to inform members, facilitate dialogue and contribute to public and institutional discussions on EU policies affecting the bio-based industry and the wider bioeconomy sector.

Member Of
The Greek Bioeconomy Council (GBC) is a founding member of the European Bioeconomy Clusters Alliance (EBCA). It also contributes to relevant European stakeholder initiatives, including a joint call in the context of the Circular Economy Act consultation coordinated through the European Sustainable Phosphorus Platform (ESPP).
