Mission & Goals

Good Food For All – Europe (GFFA-EU) is a Brussels-based non-profit association established to advocate for the recognition and implementation of the right to food across the European Union. It operates as a civil society platform coordinating a broad coalition of organizations, experts, and grassroots movements working toward fair, sustainable, and democratic food systems. GFFA-EU’s core mission is to promote public policies that guarantee access to adequate, healthy, and culturally appropriate food for all, while strengthening democratic participation in food governance. The organization serves as the coordinating structure behind the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “Food is a Human Right for All!”, which seeks to mobilize EU citizens and institutions toward embedding the right to food into European legislation and policy frameworks. EU Legislative Interests

GFFA-EU primarily targets European Union legislative and policy initiatives related to food systems, social protection, and fundamental rights. Its work focuses on influencing both existing frameworks and upcoming legislative proposals, in particular: The European Green Deal – Farm to Fork Strategy: the central EU policy framework for transforming food systems toward sustainability, fairness, and public health, including objectives on access to affordable and nutritious food Proposed EU Framework Law on Sustainable Food Systems (FSFS): a flagship legislative initiative intended to establish common principles and obligations across the entire food system Common Agricultural Policy (CAP): particularly its reform and implementation, with regard to subsidies, fair income for producers, and alignment with social and environmental objectives EU policies on food information, labelling, and consumer protection, including initiatives related to healthy diets and transparency in food systems Social and economic policies linked to food access, including minimum income schemes, public procurement, and anti-poverty strategies at EU level EU external action and development policies where the right to food is relevant, including coherence with human rights commitments in third countries More broadly, GFFA-EU engages with horizontal EU policy processes that shape food systems governance, aiming to integrate the right to food as a binding principle across legislation, rather than treating food solely as a market commodity.

Communication Activities

GFFA-EU carries out a range of communication and advocacy activities to support public engagement and policy dialogue on EU food systems and the right to food. These include: Pan-European public campaign linked to the European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) “Food is a Human Right for All!”, including digital outreach, multilingual communication materials, and citizen mobilization across EU Member States; Public events and institutional engagement, including conferences, roundtables, and policy discussions in Brussels and other European cities, notably events held in or in relation to the European Parliament and EU policy fora; Coalition-building activities, such as webinars, coordination meetings, and working groups bringing together civil society organizations, researchers, and practitioners to align positions on EU legislative developments (e.g. Sustainable Food Systems Framework, CAP, Farm to Fork); Publications and policy materials, including briefing notes, campaign toolkits, position papers, and explanatory content aimed at facilitating citizen understanding of EU legislative processes and food policy issues; Media and digital communication, including website content, newsletters, social media campaigns, and partnerships with civil society networks to disseminate information related to EU food policies and the ECI; Stakeholder outreach, engaging NGOs, trade unions, grassroots movements, and other actors to encourage participation in EU-level democratic mechanisms and consultations. All communication activities are conducted on a non-profit basis and aim to enhance transparency, democratic participation, and awareness of EU policymaking related to food systems and social rights.
