Mission & Goals

GOAL is an international non-governmental organisation that delivers a wide range of humanitarian and development programmes, with a focus on systems, partnerships and building resilience. In line with our organisational strategy, our work aligns with four programmatic goal areas: emergency response; health; nutrition and food security; and livelihoods.

EU Legislative Interests

GOAL contributes to forums, panels and discussions to support EU stakeholders with insights and information drawn from its humanitarian programming on the ground. Our work covers a range of policy areas including natural disasters, food security, development policy and finance, and the assistance of humanitarian aid to victims of conflicts and natural disasters. More broadly GOAL Global's engagement with the EU is in the context of the mid term reviews of the Multiannual Indicative Programmes under NDICI. GOAL also hopes to engage with the Commission in the framework of the Corporate Sustainable Due Diligence Directive.

Communication Activities

GOAL does not directly engage in lobbying—defined by the Register of Lobbying in Ireland as efforts to drive the initiation, development, or modification of any public policy or programme, or the preparation or amendment of any law. At GOAL, we focus instead on advocacy-oriented activities. We understand advocacy as the intentional effort to influence change and action at the local, national, and international levels in pursuit of our vision: A world beyond humanitarian crises where poverty no longer exists, where vulnerable communities exposed to shocks and stresses are resilient, where barriers to well-being are removed, and where everyone has equal rights and opportunities. Our advocacy efforts are complemented by strategic communications support. GOAL is an active member of the Dublin-based Irish NGO platform Dochas and of the Brussels-based VOICE network - both networks engage in communication activities related to EU policies. We also carry out fundraising events and awareness-raising activities in Ireland to support our global humanitarian work. GOAL undertakes fundraising events and awareness raising activities in Ireland for the purpose of supporting its humanitarian work globally. GOAL publishes its research and best practises regarding our humanitarian programming at a technical level. A record of these publications can be found here: https://www.goalglobal.org/impact-learning/ More generally, GOAL communicates about its humanitarian work, the support of our donors and partners (including ECHO), networks and the positive contribution of Ireland and the EU to supporting vulnerable communities worldwide.
