Mission & Goals

GCERF is the global fund to prevent violent extremism. Its mission is to support local, community-level initiatives to strengthen resilience against violent extremist agendas. This is paired with the long-term vision of fostering peaceful and inclusive communities that are resilient to violent extremism and achieving sustainable development. GCERF and the community-led interventions it supports contribute to the implementation of the UN Global Counterterrorism Strategy and the UN Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism and ensure that the policy frameworks developed by the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) are implemented at the local level. In addition, GCERF fully aligns its work with Agenda 2030 with a primary focus on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and additional emphasis on SDGs 1, 4, 5, 8 and 10. As a public-private partnership, GCERF is a model of innovative partnership, advancing the realisation of SDG 17.
