Global Citizen received grants totalling €552,500 from the Gates Foundation in 2024. Funding is ongoing in 2025. Some of the funding from Gates was used for EU related work. An employee of the Gates Foundation sits on the Global Citizen Board. There is no link between Global Citizen's corporate sponsors and its work with the EU. Our corporate sponsors in 2024 included Cisco, Citi and Delta Air Lines, but such sponsorship affiliations were associated with events that do not fall within the scope of this registry. While these sponsors had employees on GC's Board of Directors in 2024, the sponsors do not dictate GC's campaigns and in any event the directors from such sponsor organizations recuse themselves from board decisions where appropriate.
Additional Information
The budget above refers to the global budget of the organisation, not the budget allocated to EU-related activity. Many of our contributions exceed €10,000, but none of those contributions account for more than 10% of the organisations finances in 2024. Our total income is split as follows: Donations and grants €19,394,549/40%, Other - Sponsorships €22,261,760/46%. Other - merchandise sales, bank interest & other items €383,324/1%, other - in kind €6,417,770/13%. Approximately 64% of funding was received from corporate sources (predominantly in kind and sponsorship for events but also some donations) but none of that related to EU work. Foundations provided approximately 33% of funding (predominantly grants but also unrestricted donations) of which only part of the Gates Foundation grant was allocated towards EU activities. Individual contributions amounted to approximately 3% of funding (unrestricted donations) of which a nominal amount was allocated towards work with the EU. We received £707,953 from Europe Climate foundation and €552,500 from the Gates Foundation. Some Global Citizen Board members made unrestricted one-off donations to Global Citizen either personally, or through their foundations. These fall outside the scope of this registration. We used a representative from Valia BV to represent our rights.
