Mission & Goals

The Global CCS Institute is an international think tank whose mission is to accelerate the deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS), a vital technology to tackle climate change and provide energy security. The Institute shares expertise, builds capacity and provides advice and support to drive the adoption of CCS as cost-effectively, safely, and reliably as possible, so that it can play its part in reducing GHG emissions globally. Our objectives: - Provide authoritative knowledge-sharing; - Offer fact-based advice and advocacy; - Create favourable conditions to implement CCS; - Increase public understanding and acceptance of CCS; - Increase commercial opportunities for CCS.

EU Legislative Interests

As part of its mission, the Global CCS Institute follows a wide range of EU policy, legislative and regulatory developments that aim to advance the deployment of industrial carbon management across the region, including but not limited to: - The EU Industrial Carbon Management Strategy; - The Clean Industrial Deal (CID) and related files; - The EU Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA); - The EU CCS Directive; - The Revised EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS) Directive and the revised EU Monitoring and Reporting Regulation (EU MRR); - The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM); - The EU certification framework for permanent carbon removals, carbon farming and carbon storage in products (CRCF); - The EU Delegated act setting out the methodology to determine the GHG emission savings of low-carbon fuels; - EU funds that can support CCS deployment.

Communication Activities

The Global CCS Institute conducts fact-based advocacy activities in order to position and promote the critical role of CCS in a low-carbon economy.
