Mission & Goals

The Global Battery Alliance (GBA) is a public-private platform bringing together leading international organizations, NGOs, industry actors, academics and governments to align collectively in a pre-competitve approach, to drive systemic change along the entire battery value chain. All GBA members commit to a set of guiding principles established as the necessary conditions for a sustainable and responsible battery value chain, which include establishing a circular battery value chain as a major driver to achieve the Paris Agreement, establishing a low carbon economy in the the value chain and safeguarding human rights and economic development consistent with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The flagship project of the GBA is the Battery Passport, a digital representation of a battery that conveys information about all applicable ESG and lifecycle requirements based on a comprehensive definition of a sustainable battery.

EU Legislative Interests

The objective of the GBA in relation to EU policy making is to promote demand for transparent, sustainable and responsible battery value chains. In particular, we engage in technical exchanges regarding the implementation of the EU Batteries Regulation (battery expert group), Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, Waste Shipments, and other regulations pertaining to the battery value chain, in order to inform their implementation and align the GBA's frameworks with regulatory requirements.

Communication Activities

Alignment of the GBA's sustainability reporting framework - the Battery Passport - with the EU Batteries Regulation.
