Mission & Goals

Future Matters is a think tank and capacity-building organisation with a focus on creating a safer and more liveable world. We work in the areas of climate protection and AI risk management. We conduct policy research and communicate our findings to policymakers and other stakeholders via various mediums like training courses, workshops, direct exchanges, conference presentations, and diverse media, including publications, and social media. We also train and advise non-profit organisations in the area of skills for civic engagement.

EU Legislative Interests

Based on its research findings, Future Matters informs EU policymakers who work on the following proposals, strategies, and policies: Climate Protection: Climate action, European Green Deal, 2040 Climate Target, Clean Industrial Deal, Competitiveness Compass, Steel and Metals Action Plan, transition to climate neutrality, climate and energy diplomacy, bilateral and plurilateral engagement and partnerships on climate action, international and multilateral climate policy, international climate finance, Global Gateway, Team Europe Initiatives, Clean Trade and Investment Partnerships, EU-India Free Trade Agreement, EU-India Trade and Technology Council, Strategic EU-India Agenda, funding and regulation for research and innovation for climate action, European Competitiveness Fund, R&I Framework programme, Horizon Europe, sustainable food systems, food and feed safety simplification omnibus, Farm-to-Fork Strategy, Bioeconomy Strategy, European Biotech Act, Action Plan for Plant-based Foods, EU Protein Plan, Novel Foods Regulation, Life Science Strategy, Start-up and Scale-up Strategy, European Innovation Act, Livestock Strategy, Vision for Agriculture and Food Artificial Intelligence (AI) risk management: AI safety, bias and ethical concerns from AI systems, EU contributions to international AI summits (e.g. 2025 summit hosted by France), EU participation in United Nations-led discussions or future agreements on AI, EU, and member state funding for AI risk research, and AI/biotechnology regulation Biosecurity: pandemic preparedness policy, monitoring, and regulation of genetic sequence production, air quality monitoring and cleaning in public buildings and transport, international and multilateral biosecurity-related policy, animal-to-human disease transmission monitoring and mitigation, public provision, stockpiling and funding of personal protective equipment
