Mission & Goals
The UOC is a global university and a digital native. Its mission and public duty is to provide people with lifelong learning, and as a part of this, it generates knowledge in the intersection between technology and the social and human sciences. The five values that guide the UOC’s activities are: - Commitment: to our students, our graduates and society, to high quality service, and to innovation as a mainstay of our organization. - Respect: for people, ideas, cultures and the world. - Transparency: in information, data and processes. - Professionalism: empowering people in our organization, acknowledging successes and learning from mistakes. - Sustainability: ensuring the economic, social and environmental sustainability of our organization’s activities.
EU Legislative Interests
The UOC's equal-opportunity and inclusive approach to higher education has been designed to ensure that no one is left behind. What's more, our programmes aid students in becoming socially responsible citizens with a global outlook. The University also engages in research that has a social impact and forges alliances with academic and cultural institutions, international agencies and organizations from the voluntary sector. The United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a central pillar of the UOC's pursuit to position itself as a global university. Accordingly, we are facing the world's greatest challenges head-on by generating knowledge that can be used to help our societies progress. Therefore, UOC is interested and follows the main EU priorities and policies in European Education, Research and Innovation: - European Digital Education Content Framework - Europe’s Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027) - Council Recommendation on a European approach to micro-credentials for lifelong learning and employability - Recommendations on key competences for lifelong learning - European Digital Skills and Jobs Platform - Research Cluster for Digitally-enabled Education - Framework of the AI Act proposal and “Ethical guidelines on the use of AI and data in teaching and learning for educators” by the European Commission. - Human Resources Strategy and HRS for Researchers (HRS4R) and theEuropean Competence Framework for Researchers - European Council Recommendation on learning for environmental sustainability - European Neighbourhood Policy - Rural Pact - EC Communication “A long-term Vision for the EU's Rural Areas - Towards stronger, connected, resilient and prosperous rural areas by 2040” - New European Innovation Agenda, adopted on 5 July 2022 - EU's open science policy
Communication Activities
The UOC participates in international (IAU and J-WEL), European (EADTU, EUA and EDEN), regional/Ibero-American (CINDA) and territorial (CRUE) networks. The UOC has implemented a communication plan specifically dedicated to its main international collaboration networks, such as the IAU, EUA, EADTU, EDEN and CINDA. Within this framework, the University regularly disseminates news about projects, results and activities, which are shared through the newsletters of these networks, reaching university institutions in Europe, Latin America and other regions. In addition, the UOC has joined the Rural Pact and one of its academics, Soledad Morales, is part of the Rural Pact Management Committee.
