Mission & Goals
IRB Barcelona is an international biomedical research institute founded in 2005 by the Government of Catalonia and the University of Barcelona. It is one of the 42 research centres of the CERCA system and a member of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). Located at the Barcelona Science Park, IRB Barcelona conducts cutting-edge basic and translational research with the goal of improving human health, with a particular focus on cancer and age-related diseases. The institute actively promotes the transfer of scientific knowledge to society through technology transfer, partnerships with hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry, and scientific outreach. IRB Barcelona is also deeply committed to training the next generation of scientists through a highly competitive PhD programme.

Communication Activities
IRB Barcelona is the coordinator of the Horizon Europe project CGI-Clinics (GA101057509) which participated in an MEP sponsored event at the EU Parliament in Brussels, Belgium on 21 March 2023. In a diverse multistakeholder panel discussion between medical oncologists, patient associations and policy-makers in Europe entitled ‘Towards a new era of personalised oncology at the EU level‘, IRB Barcelona personnel addressed how the impact of CGI-Clinics will address known policy and service delivery barriers that prevent greater access to personalised medicine for cancer in Europe. IRB Barcelona has recently contributed its position to the public consultation on the Innovation Act IRB Barcelona is preparing its participation in the public consultation on the ERA Act. IRB Barcelona has also participated on different public consultations related to EU’s Framework Programmes for Research and Innovation, among which we highlight: -Interim evaluation of Horizon Europe, to evaluate the first results of Horizon Europe's research & innovation actions funded by the EU in 2021-2023. -Consultation on the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025-2027 -Consultation on the EU's MFF
