Mission & Goals

Frontier Rare Earths Limited is a private Luxembourg-resident company managed and controlled by and on behalf of EU nationals, developing the Zandkopsdrift magnet rare earths and battery grade manganese project in South Africa. Frontier plans to become a key supplier of two of the Strategic Raw Materials necessary for the development of the secure and sustainable supply chains required for the EU’s planned green and digital transitions. At full capacity, Zandkopsdrift will produce 3,500 tonnes of magnet rare earths per annum, sufficient to supply 17% of the EU’s forecast in 2030, 100,000 tonnes of battery grade manganese sulphate, and upto 13,000 tonnes of other rare earths per annum. With reserves sufficient for a 45+ year mine life, Zandkopsdrift is well positioned to become a trusted, leading supplier of two of the EU’s Strategic Raw Material requirements. In June 2025 Zandkopsdrift project was designated as a Strategic Project by EU under the Critical Raw Materials Act.

Communication Activities

Frontier has participated in public roundtable events and forums coordinated by EC-principally DG Grow and DG INTPA- in relation to the development of new critical raw material supply chains which would allow EU reduce its reliance on China for the majority of its supplies thereof. Frontier has also undertaken outreach to EC staff whose mandate extends to Critical Raw Materials in order to build awareness of Frontier and our Zandkopsdrift magnet rare earth and battery grade manganese sulphate project in South Africa. The nature of communications have been high level and have not involved any proposals being received from or submitted to EC personnel or institutions. In June 2025 Zandkopsdrift was designated a Strategic Project under the EU's Critical Raw Materials Act and this designation has resulted in more intensive engagement with EU personnel, including with EU's South African mission, in order to promote and connect Frontier/Zandkopsdrift with potential EU financial and commercial offtake partners. Frontier has participated in panels at Raw Materials Week in Brussels (2025), sub group conferences focused on magnet rare earth value chains coordinated by EIT Raw Materials (2025) and also will join EU promotions/events planned for the African Mining Indaba in Cape Town scheduled for February 2026.
