Mission & Goals

The European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) is a Non Governmental Organisation established in 1987, in Barcelona - under the auspices of the Council of Europe. Its network gathers more than 250 European local and regional authorities from 17 Member States and aims to strengthen crime prevention policies and to promote the role of local authorities in national and European policies. Efus serves as a think-tank and a place for dialogue and discussion. It provides opportunities for the exchange of positive experiences, on the basis of inter-city cooperation. This helps to stimulate and orient policies at a local, national and community level, in the areas of prevention of urban insecurity and crime management, with a view to the progressive development of an international approaches. The governance of Efus is representative of the geographical and political diversity of its members. It is managed by a General Assembly and an Executive Committee (35 cities & regions, elected annually).

Efus follows all the initiatives launched by the European Commission in the field of home affairs, justice, fundamental rights.

The European Forum works with the majority of the 27 countries from the European Union. The European Forum has a consultative status in the field of crime prevention within the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the United Nations and the European Commission. Efus works in partnership with a network of European and international institutions, universities and other knowledge institutions, as well as non-governmental and private sector organisations. Efus attachs great importance to this ecosystem, which it built over more than 35 years to create synergies and cross-fertilisation among a large array of urban security actors. Organisation Members

http://efus.eu/en/members-partners/ The national Forums for Urban Security in Belgium (BeFUS), France (FFSU), Germany (DEFUS), Italy (FISU) and Spain (FEPSU) gather Efus members in each of these countries and conduct activities at the national level, while also taking part in the activities conducted by the European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) across Europe.
