Mission & Goals
Fondazione MeSSInA is a community foundation with over 20 years of experience in transformative territorial development. Inspired by Amartya Sen’s capability approach and Complexity Theory, it drives systemic change, enabling marginalized communities through collective vision-building and innovative use of local and external resources. The Foundation leads a Cluster of Social and Ecologic Innovation, recognised by the European Commission, linking social enterprises in housing, finance, education, energy and ecological transition with universities, public institutions and international partners. This ecosystemic model has produced award-winning initiatives in inclusive housing, renewable energy communities, community-based welfare and sustainable industrial production. Key results: support to 1,000+ vulnerable people, creation or consolidation of 250+ enterprises and 600+ jobs, regeneration of 10 significant sites (including a 24,000 sqm shantytown), and 1.5 MW of solar capacity.
EU Legislative Interests
The Foundation’s actions directly support key EU frameworks such as the European Green Deal (climate neutrality, circular economy, renewable energy), the New European Bauhaus (sustainability, inclusion, beauty in urban regeneration), and the European Pillar of Social Rights (housing, fair work, social inclusion). We also align with Cohesion Policy and Just Transition, and the EU Action Plan for the Social Economy.
