Mission & Goals
Flare seeks to help resolve the most pressing crises of our time, from climate change to the rise in hatred and polarisation, through effective, purposeful debate that brings together elected representatives, civil society and all other relevant sectors. In order to do this, Flare takes debate out of "business-as-usual" settings into real life locations, using music, arts and conviviality to bring out commonality and re-frame issues in a way that facilitates resolution. We use pioneering methods to shake up old, unhelpful patterns of engagement and make meaningful dialogue possible.
EU Legislative Interests
Our theory of change is that societal narratives (stories with a moral element that are collectively held to represent an understanding of what is right and desirable in society) underpin, shape and are shaped by policy making. Through our dialogue experiments, we bring together stakeholders across a spectrum of views to weave shared stories that can lead to action, including policy development. Our interest is therefore in policy areas that reflect (or indeed have the power to shape) broader societal narratives, across one or all member states. Our current areas of interest include: Global Health, for instance the EU’s new strategy for Global Health, currently under public consultation with a forthcoming call for evidence Food systems, for instance the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy, the EU Biodiversity strategy International development, food security, migration, for instance the ACP-EU partnership, EU-IOM joint initiative or the EP’s own initiative report on addressing food security in developing countries Climate and environment, for instance the Fit for 55 package
