Mission & Goals
The FBA is a public entity that is founded by law (The Finnish Advocates Act 496/1958), and the statutes of the FBA have been verified by the Finnish Ministry of Justice (Statutes of the Finnish Bar Association 540/2012). The FBA has statutory responsibilities and acts as “indirect public administration” handling its responsibilities in the Finnish Legal system. These responsibilities include for example approving new Attorneys-at-law and supervising the professional activities of Attorneys-at-law, Licensed Trial Counsels and Public Legal Aid attorneys. The Finnish legal system does not include a monopoly on Attorneys-at-law. The FBA is not a trade union and does not represent interests of any commercial nature nor its members. All activities and actions taken by the FBA aim to ensure the realization of the principle of Rule of Law and impartiality of the lawyers representing and defending clients before the courts of law as well as access to justice and fundamental and human rights.
