Mission & Goals
Fimar Balkan AD, based in Skopje established in 2016, specializes in the extraction, processing, and export of high-quality marble. The company’s core mission is the sustainable use of natural resources through modern technology and environmentally responsible practices. With its signature “Balkan White” marble, Fimar Balkan has positioned itself as a reputable supplier in both regional and international markets. The company contributes to local economic development by creating jobs, promoting Macedonian products globally, and building long-term partnerships in the natural stone industry. Fimar Balkan aims to continuously improve product quality, expand its production capacity, and invest in innovative, eco-friendly technologies. A key strategic goal is to strengthen its presence in the European Union by developing a wider distribution network and participating in major construction and design projects. The company is committed to aligning with EU standards and expectations.
EU Legislative Interests
Our interest representation activities focus on EU legislative proposals and policies that directly affect the marble and natural stone industry, particularly in the areas of quarrying, environmental compliance, product market access, and sustainability standards. The main legislative files and proposals we follow and engage with include: Proposal for a Regulation establishing a framework for ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials (Critical Raw Materials Act) – While marble is not classified as critical, this regulation shapes the strategic environment for raw material extraction, permitting, and sustainable value chains, which are highly relevant for our sector. Proposal for a Regulation on Construction Products (recast of Regulation (EU) No 305/2011) – This directly governs how marble products are placed on the EU market, introducing updated requirements for product performance, digital product passports, and harmonised standards. Sustainable Product Policy Framework and the proposed Regulation on Eco-design for Sustainable Products – These proposals aim to extend circularity and sustainability requirements to construction and building materials, with potential implications for marble and stone products. Revision of the Waste Framework Directive (Directive 2008/98/EC) – We follow the revision process closely, as it affects waste management and reuse obligations in quarrying and stone processing operations. Our objective is to ensure compliance with evolving EU regulations and to support a policy environment that fosters sustainable, competitive, and fair trade conditions for natural stone producers operating within and exporting to the European Union.
Communication Activities
We actively follow EU legislative developments relevant to the natural stone and construction materials sectors and seek to contribute to the policy dialogue in areas such as sustainability, raw materials, and environmental compliance. We are following the public consultations and stakeholder feedback processes on key legislative proposals, including the Construction Products Regulation and the Critical Raw Materials Act. Our contributions highlight the specific context of marble extraction and processing, including sustainability challenges and the role of Small and medium enterprises in the value chain. Our team attends EU-hosted webinars and workshops—especially those organized on sustainable product policy, digital product passports, and circular economy principles. Although we are not currently members of industry associations, we are in the process of joining relevant national and European platforms in the stone and construction sectors. In the meantime, we follow their publications and events and seek alignment with sector-wide policy positions. Our communication reflects our commitment to transparency, regulatory alignment, and support for EU goals on sustainability, competitiveness, and responsible resource use.
