Mission & Goals

FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, is the world governing body for basketball. Founded by eight nations in 1932, we now bring together 212 National Basketball Federations from all over the world. A non-profit making organisation, our mission is to develop and promote the game of basketball, uniting the wider basketball community, which counts more than 450 million players and fans. We organise and oversee international competitions including the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup and the Olympic Basketball Tournaments. We establish the Official Basketball Rules as well as the regulations that govern the relationships between the different members of the basketball community. FIBA is the only authority in basketball recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). EU Legislative Interests

- Membership in EOC EU Office in Brussels. - Several meetings with EU Commission regarding the ECA Euroleague-FIBA issue. - European Commission High-Level Group on Gender Equality in sport to follow up the strategic proposals made in 2014 and continue progressing towards more gender equality in the sports sector. - Participating in EU meetings, conferences and events regarding the EU Erasmus Plus Sports Programme. - Participating in the annual European Week of Sport and the EU Sport Forum. - Involvement in the preparation of the EU Work Plan for Sport.

Additional Information

In August 2024 a new Erasmus+ project called "Hoops for Schools" was approved by the EU. In September 2024 the EU paid 280,000 € and the rest of the contribution (120,000 €) will be paid upon completion of the project in 2026. In August 2025 a new Erasmus+ project called "ICoachGirlsPlus" was approved by the EU. FIBA Europe as a project partner will receive for this partnership a total of 44,900 € by the end of the year 2025.
