Mission & Goals
FCEI’s commitment to serving people on the move flows from arts. 2.2 and 2.8 of its constitution which, broadly, provide for the witness and service of churches to be strengthened within the framework of their commitment to justice and solidarity activities to be undertaken in favour of disadvantaged people, with particular reference to refugees and migrants. Since 2014, this work has been consolidated under the badge of “Mediterranean Hope”, tackling issues on three levels: meeting urgent need, embedding best practice and changing narratives and policy. Teams based in Lampedusa, Lebanon, Sicily Calabria, Piedmont and Rome[FK1] are engaged in wide-ranging work, from welcoming those who arrive in Italy by boat, to providing housing for exploited seasonal workers, facilitating medical treatment for refugees in Beirut, implementing its renowned humanitarian corridors programme, piloting and advocating for innovative legal pathways, and safeguarding the rights of migrants and refugees.
