EU Legislative Interests

• EU Strategic Framework for Health and Safety at Work (2021–2027): sets the overarching goals and actions for reducing work-related risks, improving risk prevention, and promoting safer and healthier workplaces across the EU. • Framework Directive on Occupational Safety and Health (Council Directive 89/391/EEC) and its sectoral and implementing measures: establishes the basic duties of employers and rights of workers to a safe and healthy workplace; continues to be interpreted and updated through related directives. • EU-OSHA (European Agency for Safety and Health at Work) priorities and campaigns: annual and multi-annual work programmes that translate framework goals into practical guidance, awareness campaigns, and best practices for employers and workers. • EU4Health Programme (2021–2027): funding and policy emphasis on health systems, prevention, workforce health, and cross-border health threats, indirectly supporting occupational health initiatives and services. • EU nursing and health workforce policy instruments: policies and communications that call for strengthening the role of nurses in public and occupational health, including recognition of advanced practice roles and the need for appropriate scope of practice. • European Professional Standards and accreditation movements: guidance and potential regulations encouraging standardized qualifications, continuing education, and professional recognition for nurses in occupational health. • Directive 2005/36/EC (as amended by 2013/55/EU) on the recognition of professional qualifications; ongoing reforms aim to improve recognition processes for health professionals across member states, including nurses with a specialization in occupational health.
