Mission & Goals
EUROTOX aims to foster toxicology, scientifically and educationally across Europe through the annual scientific congress, recognition of toxicologists, and postgraduate training courses. Furthermore, the annual EUROTOX awards (Merit Award and EUROTOX Lecture) recognise distinguished European toxicologists, while early career scientists are engaged through awards, travel bursaries, exchange program and Early Career Forum (ECF) network.
EU Legislative Interests
EUROTOX is actively harmonising toxicology education and training, having established the European Register of Toxicologists in 1994 with the goal of providing Europe with well-trained toxicologists to ensure the safety of society in general. Currently the register consists of close to 2,000 members and a total of 26 national registers across Europe. Training of toxicologists and young scientists via courses, webinars, exchange program, participation in annual congress, and speciality section activities.
Communication Activities
Commentary published in Elsevier's Toxicology Letters (2016) "The European Registered Toxicologist (ERT): Current status and prospects for advancement" to recognise the need for professional competence, scientific integrity and credibility of toxicology professionals across Europe. Statement Paper published in Elsevier's Toxicology Letters (2016) "Toxicology as an academic discipline in European Universities” to draw attention to the critical importance of the toxicology in protecting the health of consumers, workers and the environment.
