Mission & Goals

FEU, the Federation of the European Fire Officers is an NGO set up in 1992 with the following aims 1) Develop the leadership capability of career principal fire and rescue service officers in Europe with a focus on strategic issues; 2) Be a strong voice for fire and rescue services at European and global level; 3) Connect with career principal fire and rescue service officers in Europe to exchange best practice, improve knowledge sharing and facilitate transnational cooperation relating to public safety and any other activity as decided by the FEU Council. The membership of FEU includes member associations from 20 EU countries plus Norway and England and cooperation with several pther European countries.

Communication Activities

Communications activities include: FEU organizes a leadership program called ODP (Officers development program). FEU aims to promote and facilitate sharing of knowledge, exchange of best practices and collaboration between fire services within Europe. The program has been designed to help connect and support European fire officers with their strategic focus, leadership, and organizational development, now and in the future. Publications: We adopted the most recent version of our constitution in 2024. It is available on our website www.f-e-u.org. We currently support the biannual European fire safety conference called the International Fire Safety Education seminar. The most recent conference took place in Finland 2025. EU projects We have successfully taken part in a number of EU projects such as FireComp (www.firecomp.eu) 12 EU fire service organisations from 7 countries worked together to devlop a description of duties and tasks for firefighters, crew and group commanders in Europe. Safehotel (www.safehotel.org) Developed interactive safety training for hotel staff in 12 languages under leonardo da Vinci programme Multicom112 (www.multicom112.org) Developed language tools for training of control room operators in 17 languages and won European Language Label Award EUSR (www.eusr.org) Developed training programme for fire personnel in the use of special rescue equipment from heights and depths and in technical rescues Emergent (www.fp7-emergent.eu) Developed tools for management of social media in emergency incidents LINKs project (http://links-project.eu) which began on 1 June 2020. The overall aim of the LINKS project is to strengthen links between technologies and society for improved European disaster resilience and in the DIREKTION projekt as associated partner. We have also issued a letter of support for the Erasmus+ fire safety education project for post primary students called BFireSafe@School (www.bfiresafeatschool.eu) We have also taken part in a number of Exchange of Experts (EoE) programmes under the Civil Protection Mechanism.
